Nay Pyi Taw
Nay Pyi Taw is the capital of Myanmar since 2005, and it is located in the central part of the nation. Since Nay Pyi Taw focuses on the business of government, you will see many ministries, government buildings and hotels in different ‘zones’ and you have your choice of hotels in the three hotel zones - “Dekkhinathiri, Uttarathiri and Pohbbathiri”. Large-scale events such as Euromoney and ASEAN Summit were recently held at the Myanmar International Convention Centers (MICC 1 and 2) in Nay Pyi Taw.
When you are visiting Nay Pyi Taw, you will see “The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw”, Myanmar’s vast 31-building parliament. Please take note; prior to visiting the parliament, visitors will need pre-arranged permits to explore the buildings and area.
The huge Uppatasanti Pagoda is a prominent landmark that you cannot miss in Nay Pyi Taw, and it is a slightly smaller replica of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. Speaking of replicas, you can also see the replicas of other famous Myanmar landmarks in the National Landmarks Garden. Each booth at the garden reflects the cultural heritage and longtime existence of Myanmar. The Zoological Garden is also a popular stop in Nay Pyi Taw where it houses different species of mammals, birds and reptiles, including rare species such as penguins and white tigers. It is a great place for families with kids to have a fun day and see the wildlife.
